The Vero Beach Regional Airport is a lot more than it appears, as it is the 6th busiest airport in the state, and is one of the only self-sustained municipal airports in the country.
It is the home of both Piper Aircraft, and Flight Safety. It is not only convenient for those who have their own planes, it now has commercial flights to Newark and Naples flown by Elite Airways.
Recently it has hosted shows by the Blue Angles, and is a well-run, major asset of the City. The Airport just completed a plan for the next 20 years, a project that is updated each five years by mandate of the FAA.
The airport is about 1,700 acres, has about 187,000 takeoffs and landings each year, and has an Air Traffic Control Tower operated by the FAA. Flight Safety has about 425 students learning how to fly, and Piper Aircraft’s facility builds their aircraft there.
One of the projects the airport is presently pursuing, is trying to establish an airplane repair training program.
The City is proud of this asset.
